How to Recreate Chick-fil-A’s Iconic Chicken Salad at Home

Nearly a decade has passed since Chick-fil-A made the bittersweet decision to discontinue its iconic chicken salad, and yet, the void left by its absence continues to echo in the hearts of its loyal patrons.

The announcement that the beloved item would be vanishing from the menu, alongside coleslaw, took place in September 2017.

For countless fans, however, the wound still feels as fresh as if it happened mere moments ago. (Seriously, the chatter around it shows no sign of waning!)

With the recent reemergence of the Key Lime beverages, we reached out to Chick-fil-A this week, hoping for some hopeful news regarding the return of the chicken salad. Unfortunately, the response we received was less than promising.

“The decision to remove the Chicken Salad in 2017 was an agonizing one!” a representative from Chick-fil-A shared with Southern Living.

“At this time, we have no intentions of bringing the Chicken Salad back to the menu. However, guests are still welcome to recreate the recipe in their own kitchens and enjoy the same delicious flavor.

Indeed, Chick-fil-A acknowledged the sorrow of its devoted chicken salad aficionados. In a gesture of goodwill, they shared the coveted recipe for their dearly missed creation in August 2023.

“Chicken Salad was once a menu staple at participating Chick-fil-A locations nationwide. While it is no longer offered, we’d like to provide the recipe so you can recreate the same satisfying taste in the comfort of your own home,” the Atlanta-based chain announced via its website.

With no indication that the chicken salad will return to the menu anytime soon, here’s how you can replicate the much-missed dish in your own kitchen:

Chick-fil-A Chicken Salad (Makes 6 servings)

  • 4 Chick-fil-A Chicken Sandwich filets, roughly chopped
  • 1 ½ stalks of celery, coarsely diced
  • ⅓ cup of sweet pickle relish
  • ½ cup of mayonnaise
  • 2 hard-boiled eggs (cooled and peeled)

In a food processor, combine the diced chicken, celery, mayonnaise, and relish. Pulse the mixture six or seven times. With the processor running, add the eggs one at a time and allow the machine to process for up to 10 seconds, or until the desired consistency is achieved.

Now, you can bring a taste of the beloved chicken salad back to your table—no trip to Chick-fil-A required.
